Winter is finally upon us, and the pull of hibernation is stronger than ever. There are so many great events happening in Minneapolis/St. Paul during this time of year. Here are some ideas to keep you up and at 'em. Netflix can wait. ;)
All weekend (1/28-1/31): Starting tonight, the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships will be going on at Lake Nokomis for the whole weekend. And it's going to be warm-ish outisde! See the schedule of events to see when you can swing by. There's a beer garden, food, skate sharpening, family open rink time and more. CHECK. IT. OUT.
Saturday (1/30): One of my favorite winter events each year is the Powderhorn Art Sled Rally. It's really like the photo below, where people build elaborate sleds for one trip down the hill in Powderhorn Park. This is a free, family-oriented event, but not without a taste of danger. Expect to see lots of falls and tumbles down the hill as sleds fall apart or fail to perform as expected. Bring yourself a thermos of hot cocoa or apple cider to enjoy while you watch. The rally goes from 2-4pm. The Facebook event is right here.
And for your Saturday night, there is the Drinkin' Spelling Bee at the 331 Club, hosted by Sean McPherson of Trivia Mafia. Show up at 6:30pm and throw down $7 to participate or just watch. Spellers are given a starter beer to finish before the games begin, and another beer after each correctly spelled word. Tickets here or at the door. This is a good one, folks.
Sunday (1/31): BRUNCH. Nothing else.
