Once again, it's the freakin' weekend! Groundhog Day gave us good results this year with Staten Island Chuck and Punxsutawny Phil both predicting an early spring. HOWEVER, we're still got weeks of winter ahead, so here are some hot happenings to beat the freeze.
All weekend (2.5-2.7) - The City of Lakes Loppet Festival starts on Friday with a speedskating loppet at 4pm, a Surly beer garden and fireworks at 8pm. Check out the schedule of events to find something you want to see. I recommend watching the dogsled loppet on Sunday at 1pm. Keep an eye on the Facebook event for updates.
Thursday (2.4) - Swing by Kingfield Empty Bowls tonight between 4-8pm at Martin Luther King Park. Make a donation ($20 suggested/person) to select a beautiful handmade bowl to be filled with hearty soup with bread on the side. All bowls donated by local artists and soups from local Kingfield restaurants. Proceeds will benefit Nicollet Square, a safe, affordable and supportive Kingflied housing option for youth who have experienced long-term homelessness or have been in the foster care system.
February also brings us several steamy-themed events. Pop over to the Science Museum of Minnesota for their 21+ night where their Social Science series will be exploring the Science of Sex. Bring a friend or lover and stroll about the museum with a glass of wine. The event goes from 6-11pm, with tickets from $12-$17.
Friday (2.5) - I haven't been able to peep this shop yet, but it's grabbed my attention. Flashlight Vinyl is having an in-store party to celebrate the opening of their new store and a second floor full of soul, funk and hip-hop (yassss!!!). They promise cocktails, empanadas and a 15% off store-wide discount from 6-10pm.
Sunday (2.7) - BRUNCH. Nothing else. Or the Superbowl, if you're into that. I am because it's the one day of the year I allow myself to eat as many terrible pizza rolls as I can stand.
Have a fun weekend! xo!
